Disruption is happening everywhere and in every aspect of our lives. It is happening at a scale and speed that is unprecedented in modern history impacting diverse industries, from financial services to retail, media, logistics & supply chain, manufacturing, education, professional services, and healthcare & life sciences. Leaders are finding it challenging to navigate the near-insurmountable challenges resulting from the impact of these disruptive events on their operations and have to reinvent their operating and business models to ensure their survival.
Not every disruption is driven by advances in technology as we have seen in the case of COVID-19 pandemic since early 2020 where organisations all over the world face uncertain future in a global business environment that is highly disruptive and increasingly Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous (collectively known as VUCA).
The digital transformation describes the most profound change in our age. It no longer entails the mere implementation of new technologies but requires the establishment of a new understanding of collaboration and disruptive digital leadership. Not least due to increased organisational complexity and increasing uncertainty as a result of rapidly changing markets, the qualification profile of executives has changed fundamentally in the course of digital transformation (Bawany 2020).
The right leadership is critical for organisations to thrive in a disruptive business environment. How should we define leadership in such an environment? Are the current leadership practices and competencies still relevant in the face of such disruption? How can leaders set themselves up not only to survive but also to thrive in navigating the challenges of disruptive events and crises? What are the contributing factors of organisations that have successfully implemented their digital transformation strategy?
This MBA in Disruptive Leadership Programme designed by Disruptive Leadership Institute (DLI) and the Centre for Executive Education (CEE) in collaboeration with IPE Management School Paris, provides insights into an understanding of disruptive leadership and its related concepts. It explores the transformation of organisations in today’s highly disruptive, increasingly VUCA and the digital-driven era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (also known as Industry 4.0).
